The church has faced so many persecutions and trials throughout its existence and one that’s very popular now is being called judgemental. Many Christians are of different views and I would like to add mine. Unbelievers claim that we condemn thinking we are the only ones who are right. No one wants to look or feel bad that’s exactly how they say we make them feel. There are also Christians who say other believers judge them without first getting to understand what they go through. Those who do the judging too are also of the view that they cannot allow their loved ones perish or see fellow soldiers of the cross fall down. All sides of the argument seem right, and whenever we find ourselves in a dilemma we have to look at Jesus would do (since we have been called to be exactly like Him). (If you are an unbeliever, this may be where you stop reading but you have made it this far so try and finish).
So Jesus in one of his sermons said “Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn and you will not be condemned. Pardon and you will be pardoned.” (Luke 6:37) . This makes it clear that our Lord does not want us to condemn anyone. In John 8, He shows this by His actions towards “one of the worst sinners”. A woman caught in adultery was brought to Him and He said “‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ ‘No one, sir’ she said. ‘Then neither do I condemn you’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin'”. He teaches us the right way to deal with those we judge as the worst people. We have to let them know that even though they have faults Jesus has paid for everything and then pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
Now to how Jesus dealt with believers in sin. In the early parts of the Book of Revelations, Jesus addresses the seven churches. He clearly points out their faults to them and tells them to repent for He will return. We cannot watch our brethren continue in their wrongdoings, the issue is how we go about correcting them. The Bible advises that we rebuke sharply but also in love. Let us correct each other with the word of God as directed by the Spirit. Before we correct anyone too we have to pray that the person would receive it since the heart of a king is in the hands of God.
So to the unbelievers and believers who feel judged, maybe, just maybe the reason you feel judged is because deep inside you know where you stand with God and you know you have to work on that. Open your heart to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and allow yourself to be corrected. To those who are called too judgemental, even though we are called to lead others to Christ. It is only the Holy Spirit who convicts so let Him lead you.

The Christian and Music

None of us can deny the power and influence of music. There has been a point in everyone’s life where a song changed the mood. For some of us there are songs that can lift us up no matter how bad we feel. One “bitter pill” we have to take as Christians is that we are called out of the world and hence can’t live by their standards. The word of God is our standard in everything. We therefore have to check if everything we do is in line with it and this includes the kind of music we sing and listen to.

There are many songs in the Bible and most of them were based on how the composers saw God  (mostly after a miracle). Let’s take a look at a few:

Exodus 15- when God delivered the Israelites and sent them through the red sea they sang a song of praise to Him. So we are to sing songs of praise and worship unto our maker.

1 Sam. 16:23- when David drove out an evil spirit sent by God. The songs we sing can bring deliverance.

2 Kings 3:15-16- when Prophet Elisha heard God and prophesied  after the harpist played. Music ushers us into His presence.

2 Chr. 20:21-23 – when the Israelites won a battle just by singing. Miracles happen through music.

Most of the scriptures in the New Testament concerning music say the same thing- admonishing us to sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16).

Most of us can testify that there was this church service where you just didn’t feel like participating but when that song was raised, you didn’t know what happened, you just found yourself loving the Lord in worship. So if spiritual songs can usher you into God’s presence even when you don’t want then what can secular music do to you? Music affects the environment and the kind of music can make you more prone to falling when tempted.

Job 35:10- “…where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night?” It is clear from this text that God is a source of music. Many Gospel musicians will tell you they received songs after some prayers or period of waiting before God. God is not the only source of music; it could be from the spirit of man or even evil spirits.

So as Christians we always need to surround ourselves with things that will draw us closer to God and the kind of music we sing and listen to plays a major role in our walk with Christ. Endeavour to listen to and sing Spirit-filled songs. God bless you even as you share.

“You go to a science and technology school and you believe this”, this was a comment by an atheist when I said there is a spirit world and it affects man. I realised there are a lot of people who don’t believe in God and even more who don’t believe in our God. The sad thing is most of them don’t know why.
The very first reason for their unbelief in our God is that they don’t see any difference. Most people do not accept our God because we who claim to represent God here on earth are not living a life different from them. We listen to the same songs, say the same things and even encourage them in their wrongdoings. Jesus asked us to be the light of this world for a reason. We are to live such amazing lives they would want what we have. Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 4:16 could ask men to be like him as he imitates Christ. This was a man who was so diligent in his field and practiced what he preached (1 Corinthians 9:27).
I saw another post on social media asking “If God is so loving why will he burn those who don’t love Him?”. The lake of fire was not created for man in the first place. It was created for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Jesus in John 14:30 says “…For the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me”, He is the only one pure. So He is the only way out of hell, and if you believe in Him, the devil will will have no hold on you.
Men also don’t believe because of the “mistakes in the Bible”. They point to certain “errors and contradictions”. First of all, the Bible was inspired by the Spirit of God, so without His Spirit it is very difficult if not impossible to understand His word. One error they point to is in Joshua 10:13, the Bible records that the sun stood still. My question is if a three year old child asks you why or how rainbows are formed, are you going to give the correct explanation when you know the child cannot understand? In those days a lot of discoveries had not been made so the author at that time expressed himself to be the best of his knowledge. On the contrary, the Bible has corrected science more often:
The earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22)
There are innumerable stars (Jeremiah 33:22)
Air has weight (Job 28:25)
Free float of earth in space (Job 26:7).
They claim our God does not exist because he doesn’t answer the prayers of His children, even though we proclaim His love, there is still suffering in the world. Our God has told us He will answer our prayers if we believe and ask according to His will. His will is wonderful and full of love. As a father if your six year old son asks you for a car, are you going to give it to him? Absolutely not, you know he is not ready. We cannot also rule out the kingdom of darkness who fight against the prayers of Christians (Daniel 10:12-13). With the issue of sufferings in the world, God does not interfere until you ask Him to. All wars have mainly been out of the greed of men.
Unbelievers have asked the questions all this while, I also have a question. Why will the timing of the existence of man be based on someone who didn’t exist (AD and BC)?
If you do not know Christ (whether a believer or an unbeliever), He desires a fellowship with you. True christianity is not a boring life following some rules, it is having an intimate relationship with Christ, He is always ready for you, believe and ask Him to come into your life.
